St. Louis, MO June 28th- 47 Local union leaders and members gathered at the Greater St. Louis CLC Building for AFL-CIO's second labor walk in this area. Volunteers met early Saturday morning to knock on doors of other union households. Volunteers asked other union members to sign a Million Member Mobilization card in support of the Employee Free Choice Act and discussed literature on "The Real John McCain" and Barack Obama's worker friendly voting record. Prior to the walk, the quest of honor, John Prater, President of the Airline Pilot Association, spoke to the volunteer members about the importance of labor walks and the need for the Employee Free Choice Act. President Prater then went on to explain why it is important to elect a worker friendly candidate, such as Barack Obama, for President of the United States. Prater stated, "Over the next four months this campaign and our endorsement for Barack Obama is critically important to our country, our families, and to our unions. Barack Obama is a good man and he will be a tremendous President who will listen to working men and women." John Prater also said, "I'm convinced, as are all members of the AFL-CIO, that Senator Obama is the right man to lead this country and we're going to do everything we can to see that he is elected so that we can take care of our families." Following President Prater's speech Tony George (State Representative District 74 and IBEW Local 1 member) spoke to the walkers about why labor walks are important and the difference they can make in an election and then sent the members off to knock doors. We would Like to acknowledge the local unions that participated in Saturday's labor walk: AFGE, ALPA, CWA, IBEW, IRON, IUPAT, LIUANA, NATCA, SEIU, SMWIA, TWU and UAW. Congratulations to all of the volunteers for the great job on Saturday. Keep up the good work.
