Meet Our Endorsed Candidates - Tim Keller for NM Senate District 17
Tim Keller is a candidate for the New Mexico Senate District 17. Currently he works as a business consultant in Albuquerque for long term strategic and scenario planning. His background is economic development and job creation; he even spent two years in Cambodia helping land mine and polio victims create new jobs.
“My district needs urgent attention in three areas: revitalizing and creating more jobs, improving education, and health care cost and access,” says Tim.
Tim’s family has a strong union background, and Tim plans to continue that tradition. “My father spend most of his career setting up the Union Savings Bank,” says Tim. “I plan to commit to labor issues, to ensure collective bargaining rights, expand apprenticeship programs, push for minimum wage, and also to address some hot topics such as PLA agreements and maintaining a defined benefit program”

The AFL-CIO, as well as influential unions such as AFSCME, AFT, IAFF and several Building Trades unions, endorse Tim for NM Senate. Tim sees organized labor as a critical component of the economy going forward.
“If we look at health care, job creation, pension and Social Security, I believe that organizing more is the solution to many of these issues,” says Tim. “One way to fix health care is to expand opportunities to use collective bargaining for better benefits. We can increase retirement security by returning to union based pensions. And critical for job creation is expansion of the apprenticeship model and nontraditional paths to employment.”
Tim’s passion is travel, and his goal is to visit every country in the world. He’s already visited 80 countries!
Congratulations Tim on your election to the NM Senate and we hope for your future success working with the labor movement.
