This weekend Pennsylvania's 1.8 million strong labor movement continued to break participation records for labor walks when nearly 2,000 union activists showed up Saturday morning to walk. With the help of union members from New York and New Jersey from AFSCME, CWA, IBEW, LIUNA, PEF, PSC, RWDSU, TWU and UFT union activists knocked on more union doors in one day than ever before this year.
"It's really important for union members to support other union members and talk to other union members," said Debbie Lee, PEF. "We got up early this morning to come out from New York and talk to our union brothers and sisters in Pennsylvania about how important it is to support Barack Obama."
"We realize that the way to let union members know that they should do the right thing for their future and vote for Barack Obama is for other union members to talk to them," said Chris Shelton, CWA District 1 Vice President. "That is why we decided to be in Pennsylvania this morning. We want to make sure our brothers and sisters in our union and every other union know that Barack Obama is the only choice for working families."
"Thanks to every one here this morning we are getting the message out to our members about Barack Obama," said President Wendell W. Young IV, UFCW Local 1776. "We are hitting participation numbers beyond what we expected and I am so impressed by the enthusiasm of all our volunteers. These conversations and the member-to-member contact is the most important thing we can do this year to elect Barack Obama."
