President Rosemary Boland, Scranton Federation of Teachers/AFT Local 1147 said today that she sent out a letter from the union, personally signed, because she wanted to let her fellow union members know just how important this election is to the future of working families.
“I sent out this piece of mail because I want to tell my fellow union members why, as educators and as union members, we need to support Barack Obama this year. It is very important that members are getting that message from the union, from their leadership, and from other union members.”
But at the rally for Barack Obama on Sunday in Scranton, the importance of that piece of mail was further confirmed when the Vice Presidential Candidate, Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden, along with Former President Bill Clinton and Senator Hillary Clinton all signed it as well.
“When I went back after the rally to meet Hillary Clinton I pulled out the mail piece on Barack Obama and explained that it was going out to my union members. She said that she would be happy to sign it. And when President Bill Clinton learned about the letter he immediately signed it as well. Then, when I had the opportunity to meet Senator Joe Biden he wanted to sign it and his wife, Jill Biden, said that as a teacher she wanted to sign it, too.”
“They recognize how important the union vote is in this election that is why they wanted to sign the letter. And because it is so important, I encourage all union members to do every thing they can to get involved with the Labor 2008 program. I encourage leaders to send letters of their own and to reach out to fellow union members to let them know that Barack Obama is the best candidate for working families.”
